Summer Camp India has a thriving Senior Camp, and many new campers come to ADK as Seniors every year! They come from all over the world, so get ready to make new friends from some cool places.
Your first summer as a Senior begins with the Senior Ascension ceremony. An older camper will “stand” for you and sponsor you as you join the ranks of the Senior Line. Being a Senior at Adirondack carries with it stature and responsibility. As a Senior you will:
- Be a role model for the younger campers
- Take “responsible risks”
- Demonstrate a mastery of skills
- Be a leader
- Enjoy a later “lights out”
- Stay later at dances
- Have special Senior-only evening programs
- Live in the Camp’s prime real estate — cabins with the most outstanding views of Lake George
Among the most intrepid campers at Summer Camp India(SCI), our teens are amazing! Accomplished and bold, they know what they want to do. Unlike typical teenagers, we find that our seniors are inclusive and empathetic toward their younger camp “brothers and sisters.”
At Summer Camp India, we work to encourage our teens to develop new competencies and leadership skills through taking safe risks. Activities, competitive games, and special events are structured to enable seniors to stretch their skills and temperament to meet successively mounting challenges.
Have you ever noticed how you feel after spending time outdoors in nature? Maybe you feel more relaxed, rejuvenated, and at peace. It’s no secret that spending time in nature has positive effects on our physical health, but did you know it can also have significant mental health benefits? In this blog, we’ll explore the positive mental health effects of being outdoors in nature. Stress and anxiety are common mental health issues that can have negative effects on our overall well-being. Fortunately, spending time in nature can help reduce these symptoms. Studies have shown that spending time in green spaces, such as parks or forests, can lower cortisol levels, a hormone that’s associated with stress. In addition, being outdoors in nature can help reduce symptoms of anxiety, such as racing thoughts and heart palpitations. Spending time in nature can also have a positive effect on our mood. A study conducted by the University of Essex found that people who spent time outdoors in nature had improved mood and self-esteem compared to those who spent time indoors. Additionally, being in nature can help reduce symptoms of depression and improve feelings of happiness and well-being.
Nature has a way of inspiring creativity and enhancing focus. Studies have shown that being in nature can improve cognitive function, including attention and memory. Additionally, being outdoors in nature can help reduce mental fatigue and increase creativity and problem-solving abilities.
